Roy Jackson grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he enjoyed sports, music, cars and clothes. After high school he enlisted and spent his time in the army over seas. His post as station master, handling logistics for the Red Ball Express, gave him unusual opportunities in France and England. He lived in homes with families that welcomed him in both countries. His was not the typical army experience.
After the war was over Roy attended Bowling Green University, where he met Pat, the girl of his dreams and future wife, in the University choir. Roy taught school briefly after graduation from college then went into sales. With work promotions were many house moves and region changes. Pat and Roy had two children and a marriage that lasted 70 years. They moved often and lived in different midwest states, making life long friends and building several of their homes. Roy was active in the church choir, he acted in dinner theater productions, played duplicate bridge, loved golf, was a horse shoe champion, mentored people in the work place and excelled at his most important interest, that of caring for his wife and being a wonderful father to Chip and Rita.
After a successful business career, Pat and Roy retired to Tampa, Florida, where they had a rich life of travel, parties and family gatherings. Roy lived a full life, on his own terms, for 97 years and through active listening and humor, he enriched the lives of all who knew him.
