Beekman, Steven Calvin
“When I’ve gone the last mile of the way, I will rest at the close of the day.”
Steven Calvin Beekman of Largo, Florida answered the call to see the Great King in His glory on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Affectionately known as "Stevie", “Cuz”, “Beeks” or "Beek," he will be remembered as a humble and loving son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. Often found at Home Depot or Lowe’s, Steve enjoyed fixing anything in his house or any house he was invited into. There was not a tool invented that he did not have at least two of. He enjoyed weekends at camp, time with family and a “cold one.”
A native of Gloversville, Steve was taught at a young age the importance of having a relationship with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He appreciated the value of all blessings and gave of his time and talents to the Lord. Steve was very involved in the church and always willing to help. He loved the Lord and he loved people. He was a member of the People’s A.M.E. Zion Church in Gloversville.
Steve graduated from Gloversville High School and received a Bachelors in Sociology from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He worked as a gas mechanic for National Grid.
On May 14, 1988 he married Dawn Flint and proudly assumed the role of father to Tina and Justin. In 1989 he became a proud father again when Stefanie was born.
He leaves humorous and happy memories to be cherished forever by his wife, Dawn; daughters, Tina Cortes and Stefanie Beekman; son, Justin Robinson; parents Calvin and Jeraldine Beekman; siblings, Crystal, Richard, Joy and Martha Beekman; mother-in-law, Helen Flint; grandchildren Natecia and Anthony Cortes; sisters-in-law, Donna DeCrosta (Jim), Sandra Sanders, Debra Robinson (Calvin); brothers-in-law, Gary Champagne, Richard Lowell (Pam); godson Nathaniel Ligon; special friends, Jennifer, Paul (cousin), Nicholas Ligon and Valerie Beekman; along with numerous other family and friends.
He was welcomed home by his family and friends who passed before him.
The celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 4:30 pm at Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St., Gloversville, NY. The family will begin receiving friends at 4 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation/Lung Cancer Research 12902 Magnolia Drive Tampa, FL 33612. Express your condolences and view a photo gallery on www.mossfeasterclearwater.com.
Steve worked hard, played hard and will be forever missed. “Well done, my good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:23
