Verla R. Allen

Verla was born on July 25, 1934 in North Spring, West Virginia. She graduated from Baileysville, High School where she met her husband Arnold Ralph Allen to whom she was married for 59 years. In 1954 they had a daughter, Sandra, and subsequently moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1956. In 1957 they had a son, Scott.

Arnold worked as a science teacher at Largo High School while Verla was a homemaker and then worked in retail for several years. Verla retired from her final job at Publix Supermarket at the age of 76 to care for Arnold in his later years.

A favorite activity Verla loved was to cook for family and friends. She also took pride in teaching a youth Sunday school class at Calvary Baptist Church.

Mom would often incorporate scripture in her daily life. A favorite verse was from Proverbs...

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

Verla is survived by her sister, Jane Runyon, she was preceded in death by sisters Edith Riffe, Annie Davis, Elvie Lyall, and Nellie Steiner and by brothers Blaine Davis, George Davis and Jason Davis.

A Visitation for Verla will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759, followed by a Graveside Service at 12:30 pm Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759.
