Vincent Basil Ortoleva, a man of unwavering faith, fierce passion, and enduring strength, left this world on August 28, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on June 20, 1935, in Palermo, Sicily (Italy), to the late Rosaria (née Rubino) and Vincenzo Ortoleva, Vincent embodied the spirit of resilience and devotion from the very beginning.
In 1956, Vincent bravely crossed the ocean to forge a new life in the United States, planting roots first in the vibrant heart of Greenwich Village, New York and then Salem, New Hampshire. Later, he made Boca Raton, FL his home for over 35 cherished years, where his warmth and charisma touched the lives of many. In his later years, he resided in Mechanicsburg, PA and South Plainfield, NJ., recently moving to the Tampa area.
A beloved Maitre D’ during the golden era of fine dining, Vincent’s presence was legendary. In New York, he graced the esteemed Sardi’s restaurant with his impeccable style and charm, even having the honor of serving the iconic Frank Sinatra. Known as the life of every gathering, Vincent was the ultimate host — his infectious spirit and joy brought people together like no other.
Vincent enjoyed his family, friends, and eating a great meal. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and Juventus FC, his beloved Italian football team.
Above all else, Vincent’s faith and family were his guiding lights. His devotion to both was steadfast and true, shaping the foundation of a life well-lived.
Vincent is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Anna Maria Ortoleva; his cherished daughter, Debora Maria Ortoleva; his devoted son, Francesco Ortoleva; his loving sister, Francesca Cassara; and a vast circle of extended family and friends in both United States and Europe, who were blessed by his presence.
A Mass celebrating Vincent’s remarkable life will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405 Philippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, Florida 34695. He will be laid to rest with honor at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
