Backer Jr, Warren Daniel...Died peacefully on February 21, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Warren was born November 3, 1946 to Marilyn Fisher and Warren D. Backer Sr in New Jersey. He grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ and was proud of his New Jersey roots. He spent his career in management, sales & marketing. Warren married his loving wife Patti in 1980 and he took her 3 girls on as his own in addition to his son and daughter. The family moved to Florida in 1989 enjoying the sunshine & warm weather. Warren liked to keep his mind and hands busy. He had a love of woodworking, in particular, making furniture. This resulted in a few mishaps, including a couple of hospital trips, some stitches & a hand surgery. He liked to bowl, was known to do the New York Times crossword puzzle in pen and in his later years developed a love of country music and cowboy boots. He hoped to spend his retirement years traveling the country with Patti. Warren was known to be a good friend and neighbor, helping out where he was needed. Of all the things he loved, his most prized treasure was his 9 grandchildren. Life sometimes hands you a do-over and grandkids were his. One of his favorite quotes was 'grandkids are your reward for not killing your children'. Warren's greatest joy was being Pop-Pop. Warren is survived by his wife of 36 years Patricia, his sisters Patricia (Ray) and Janet (Tom), his 5 children Tim, Jen (Geoff), Rachael, Eileen and Colleen (Mike) and his 9 grandchildren Elliot (Liz), Michael, Victoria, Jessica, T.J., Nicholas, George, Katherine and Liam. Services will be held on March 25, 2017 at 2 pm at Safety Harbor Museum & Cultural Center in Safety Harbor, Florida. Internment will immediately follow the service at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Cemetery, Clearwater, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Warren's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (Florida Gulf Coast Chapter) or your favorite charity. Just remember that I need you and the best of me is gone. Please don't fail to stand beside me and love me til my life is done.
