William G. (Bill) Hoenig, 98 years old of Dunedin, Florida, died on April 2, 2026. Bill was born in College Point, New York on November 30, 1927. The second son of William G. Hoenig, Sr. and Esther A. McKeegan, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother James F. and devoted wife Mary-Patricia (Pat). He is survived by his children, Maureen (Scott), Andrew, Virginia (Joe), Jane (Dan), Mary-Kate (Rick); grandchildren, Aaron (Lucy), Jessica, Caroline (Barry); and, great-grandsons, Giovanni and Jayden.
Bill retained amazing memories of his early childhood growing up among his large extended family in College Point. To the very end, his encyclopedic memory, sense of humor, and joy in sharing entertained those around him.
Bill spent 3 years in the US Army Air Corp as a Radar Technician. After his Honorable Discharge, he began a 21-year career at Grumman Aerospace in Calverton, New York. Upon leaving Grumman, Bill and his family relocated to Dunedin, Florida where he began a 20-year career as a US Postal Carrier. Following his retirement from the Postal Service, Bill and Pat enjoyed several more years in Dunedin, before relocating to Austin, Texas. While in Austin, they enjoyed experiencing all that Texas had to offer.
After Pat’s death, Bill returned to Dunedin, Florida to be closer to his family. He spent his final years as a resident of Mease Life. The quality of life and care received at Mease Life was excellent. We want to thank all the Nurses and Caregivers on the 3rd floor as well as the staff of PhilAm Home Care for taking such wonderful care of our father. He was truly well cared for, happy and safe there.
Interment with Honors will be at 11:00am on Monday, June 22, 2026 at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
