He is survived by his wife Lynne Shackelford, daughter Marie Shackelford of Dunwoody, GA, and his sister Betty Treiber and her husband George of Stuart, Florida, and Portsmouth, VA. He is also remembered by his faithful companion, Faith.
He attended the Augusta Military Academy and The University of Virigina. He was a Vietnam Vet and proudly served in the United States Army maintaining instruments on Helicopters.
William retired from Delta Air Lines where he calibrated instruments for the L-1011 aircraft and test flew the aircraft before releasing them back into service after performing maintenance.
His hobbies were sport cars and auto racing. In fact, he assisted in the pit crew at Road Atlanta for Richard Petty and participated in S.C.C.A. Racing.
In retirement he ran a parts and marine maintenance service called Shackelford Marine on Lake Lanier in Georgia. He was a member of the Clearwater Yacht Club and the University Yacht Club in Georgia.
William enjoyed spending 10 years traveling the United States and Canada in a motor coach with the Manadaly Club.
He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
