Barbara Lois (Schwab) Register

11 mayo, 1934 – 22 enero, 2026
Obituario de Barbara Lois (Schwab) Register
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Frank Vogler & Sons

Barbara Lois Register passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Health Care Center at Bermuda Village on January 22, 2026. She was 91 years old.

Barbara was born in Oak Park, Illinois. She had fond childhood memories of swimming and boating at the family cabin in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. For college, she boarded a train, and headed for Coral Gables, Florida, sight unseen. She loved her time at the University of Miami. After college, she worked in marketing in Chicago. She met her future husband, Frank Register, while working for the National Confectioners Association. She and Frank married and moved to Western Springs, Illinois. They had two daughters, Holly and Heather. While there she volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the League of Women Voters. When the girls were teenagers, the family moved to Purcellville, Virginia. Barbara made the most of her time in Northern Virginia. She connected with Master Gardeners, and the Virginia Museum. She was always eager to learn new things. Her daughters have fond memories of getting in the car with their Mom and driving along backroads, just to see where they went. When they retired, Frank and Barbara moved to Abingdon, Virginia. There she connected with another Master Gardener group, and took responsibility for a garden at one of Abingdon’s historic homes. She and Frank also took full advantage of the free classes for seniors at the local Community College. She and Frank eventually moved to Bermuda Run. There she again met new people and quickly became involved in community activities. She was quite modest about her bridge playing, but word was that she was pretty good!

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, William and Blanche Schwab, and her husband Frank. She was also predeceased by Joe Smith, her constant companion in the last years of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Holly Yates and Heather Moir, her son-in-law Mark Moir, and granddaughters Sarah Yates and Colleen Murray, and Colleen’s husband Matthew, and Joe’s daughter Ellen and husband Chris. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received at the Bermuda Village Health Center, and Trellis Supportive Care of Davie County

There will be a memorial open-house reception at Bermuda Village on March 28th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
