Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Selby moved at a young age with his parents to Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada. A product of both the United States of America and Canada, he moved between the countries in his early years, attending and graduating from Oak Ridge Military Academy and North Carolina State University along the way. His professional life and personal life were often directed by following his passions, which ranged broadly from architecture and design, classic automobile restoration, and naturalism. He enjoyed making life brighter particularly for young people across North Carolina, having organized and participated in many charities, churches, and a host of activities within the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Vigil Honor member within Wahissa Lodge #118, awarded for his dedication to Camp Raven Knob and Scouting.
In passing, he joins his father, Charles Selby Jones Sr., and his mother, Mary Lillie Jones whose maiden name was Mary Lillie Cromartie. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Helen Mage (Lars Mage) in Raleigh, North Carolina, and his son, Ryan Christopher Jones (Susannah Raichle Jones) in West Chester, Ohio. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Nicolai Mage, Jackson Christopher Jones, and Caroline Anne Jones.
