Dorothy Johnson Hamilton

Dorothy Johnson Hamilton, widow of William Eubanks Hamilton, Sr., passed away on January 4, 2013. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem born in 1924. She was the daughter of the late Ola Slate Johnson and Vernon W. Johnson. Dorothy was a graduate of John W. Hanes High School and attended Draughan Business College. She retired in 1985 from Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system, having worked at Ardmore and Whitaker schools as a teacher’s assistant.

Dorothy was an active member of Burkhead United Methodist Church Fellowship Forum Sunday school class and the United Methodist Women. She served on the Administrative Counsel Nominating Committee, Now and Then Club, and Board of Trustees. She taught Sunday school for many years. In earlier years she belonged to the Catalina Gardening Club.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, William E. Hamilton, Jr. and wife Becky; Michael W. Hamilton and wife Darae; two grandchildren, Alisha Marie Hamilton, Brian Gibble and wife, Michele; two great grandchildren, Jared Hamilton Gibble and Kennedy Elise Gibble; devoted and special friend Dottie; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Four brothers preceded her in death, Frank W. Johnson in 1970, Raymond V. Johnson in 1993, William S. Johnson in 2001 all of Winston-Salem, and Blake Lee Johnson who died in infancy.

A special thanks to all of Dot’s wonderful and loving neighbors. Also to the doctors, nurses and staff of the D.L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center and nurses and staff of the 9th floor Forsyth Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7th at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a brief funeral service with a graveside prayer and burial at Forsyth Memorial Park on Yadkinville Road in Winston-Salem.
