

Dorothy E. Wolberg died at age 96 on Friday morning, September 17 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living on Reynolda Road, where she has resided since February of 2008. She is survived by her son, Mr. Mark Wolberg, of Winston-Salem, and his two daughters, Ms. Andrea Wolberg and Ms. Carly Wolberg; her daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Parmet, of Los Alamitos, California; her granddaughter, Mrs. Sherry Saavedra, and great-granddaughter, Hailey Saavedra, of San Diego, California. Mrs. Wolberg was born and grew up in New York City, the daughter of immigrant parents. She met her husband, the late Lewis Wolberg, in New York City, and was married on August 8, 1936. They lived in Washington, DC, and Tampa, Florida, before moving to Winston-Salem in December 1950. At the time Mr. Wolberg died in February of 2008, they had been married for over 71 years. Mrs. Wolberg was active in B’nai B’rith Women, the Winston-Salem chapter of Hadassah, the N.C. Committee to End the War in Vietnam, and Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem. She worked as a medical secretary during much of her time in Winston-Salem. The funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, at Mount Sinai Cemetery, 1600 Utica Street, Winston-Salem, with services conducted by Rabbi Mark Strauss-Cohn. The family will receive guests who want to express condolences at the home of Mark and Fran Wolberg, 1410 Thornhill Lane, Winston-Salem, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on September 20. The family wishes any contributions in her name to be made to either Temple Emanuel of Winston-Salem or the Winston-Salem chapter of Hadassah.
