

George William Myers, age 85, of Pfafftown, NC passed away on January 13, 2013 after several years of declining health. He was born in 1927 to Martha Leanna Wilson and Hubert Grady Myers, Sr. both deceased. George is survived by his wife Ruth Jeanette VanHoy Myers of the home, one son, Michael David Myers and wife, Celeste of Monroe, NC and one daughter, Linda Yvonne Myers Whitlock and husband, David of Germanton, NC. The four grandchildren are Weston and Emma Whitlock and Jacob and Georgia Rose Myers. George joined the U.S. Navy at age 16 in 1943. He spent his WWII assignment as an Aeronautical Mechanic at the Naval Air Stations of Jacksonville and Miami FL with the rank of Seaman First Class. After discharge, he returned to High School and graduated from R.J. Reynolds in 1947. Under the GI Bill he became a small aircraft pilot at Smith Reynolds airport in Winston Salem. He was an expert mechanic and could repair any type of motor. He was employed with Western Electric for 33 years as an Engineer at the Winston Salem Plant. Working with the SafeGuard Program, his job took him and Ruth to live in various states from coast to coast and overseas to Germany. He was a lifetime member of Pfafftown Christian Church where he served as a Deacon for several years and an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 918. He was an avid golfer with his favorite course being Grandview where he also held various positions throughout many years after his retirement from Western Electric. George was proceeded in death by his younger brother, Hubert Grady Myers, Jr. at age 17 in 1948. He is survived by his only sister, Mrs. Martha Myers Lilly (Robert J.) of Burlington, NC and four nieces and their families. Along with three first cousins, Dr. Virgil A. Wilson of Winston Salem, James H. Wilson of Clemmons and Anne W. Oliver of Winston Salem. Visitation will be held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel on Tuesday, January 15th from 6:00-8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Wednesday, January 16th at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Bob Parvin of Pfafftown Christian Church will officiate.
