Mrs. Gloria B. Badger Reed

Gloria Badger Reed, 85, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Salemtowne Health Care in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Gloria was born July 31, 1925, in Ontario Canada to the late Walter Sidney Badger and Gertrude Charlotte Badger. Gloria grew up with her family in Oxford, England, where she liked to go dancing with her friends and sisters, once winning a jitterbug contest. She was the second youngest of five girls. She came to America when she was 24, where she met and married George Arthur Reed on August 15th, 1951 in Michigan City, IN, and made a home with him for 53 happy years. Her sisters, Virginia, Irene, and Carrie preceded her in death, along with her husband George in July 2005, and youngest son Douglas Reed in 1997. Gloria is survived by her younger sister Carol, her son David Reed (wife Donna) of St. Louis, MO, as well as daughter Deborah Nolan and grandchildren Alexander, Delaney, and Christian of Winston-Salem. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Gloria became a world-class sailor, and loved nothing more than sailing out with her husband and children along the East Coast in their sailboat, Echo, from Edenton, NC, along with their sweet dog Robbie. She also enjoyed music, baking, and following sports. At Salemtowne, she enjoyed having lunch with her friends and working at the front desk of the library and gift shop, as well as spending time with her daughter and grandchildren. Services are not planned at this time.
