So sorry for your loss. He always said he would stay 21 all of his days. A funny happy fellow who loved life and people. One of a kind. A great teacher of safety and survival. 

I missed this sad day. I was recovering from an open heart surgery. Yet, I will never forget Mr Hank who kept me in stitches with his endless sense of humor. He said he would teach me 21 knots I may have learned only one. Jill I am so sorry about your loss. To all the family may God be with you as you grieve. He was a good man.


I worked with Hank for many years at Sherwood Forest Elementary School and have so many happy memories. His Thanksgiving stew was a yearly favorite! Also remember him as Buckle Bear. Hank was a real treasure!

Jill, We are saddened by the passing of your dad Hank.  I did not know until too late to attend the service.  You know of our great friendship for many years.  I loved him very much, and your mom as well.  Please accept deep condolences from Fred and I.  I loved him so much.

Hank will be missed.  I was a Girl Scout at Maple Springs United Methodist.  Mr. Harris spent so many hours teaching us about camping, knots, flag etiquette.  I could go on and on. I earned my PHD (Post Hole Digger) with him!  I last saw him 10 years ago when he came to my father's visitation.  Such a special man.

Uncle Hank was a jewel. He will be missed by many.  I recall his smile and dimples.  He was a 'teacher' in every sense of the word.  I continue to hold dear my memories of the hospitality of the Harris home when we visited from Kansas. I extend prayers and condolence to the entire family. Love, Niece Kay from Kansas

We grieve for Hank and his family.  He was our friend, fellow veteran, and a cherished member of our American Legion  family.  While his military service spanned decades we remember him dearly as a member of that special generation that answered our nation's call when freedom and democracy were  most vulnerable.  We are comforted to know that the Lord has a place for Hank and his comrades from WWII where they can be at peace.  We will miss his friendship, continue to honor his service, and be forever grateful for having known him for so many years.  American Legion Post 522.

Nephew Bill Foster from Kansas, here. I have many fond memories of vacation trips to NC to visit Uncle Hank, Aunt Carolyn and my cousins, including Beach trips in the 1960's through home visits in the 1990's. Sending my love and condolences to Jill, Hank, Jr., Aunt Carolyn and their families.

Our prayers are with your family.  We will miss Mr Hank.  He taught me so much in a short time.  Our troop loved and admired him.  He was a wonderful man and will be missed.

To the Harris family - In the late 70's / early 80's Mr. & Mrs. Harris helped with our Girl Scout troop (517 I think) at Maple Springs Methodist Church on Reynolda Road here in Winston Salem. They were so kind and helpful. Mr. Harris even took our troop hiking on the Appalachian trail with a group of boy scouts. I hadn't seen him for years until I was at the Veteran's Day parade downtown and I got to speak with him - he still had that delightful laugh and cute dimples. He was a treasure and we will all miss him. I am lucky to have know him as I was growing up.

Dear Carolyn and family. Please know that I thought the world of your 'Hank.' Each time that we came in contact with each other, it was as if he had just taught me those knots yesterday. (I never really learned how to do it well, but Hank tried. He always swore that we made a movie together about outdoor skills. I'm sure they couldn't use my skills if it was ever produced.) He was a charming, very pleasant and kind man. We will miss him. Thanks for sharing him with so many ladies over the years.He earned his green wings and I am sure he is teaching the angels how to do something new already.

His knowledge and commitment about camping and set the standard for our members, girls and volunteers alike. Many of those principles are still in use by them in everyday life, in camping, teaching, or just demonstrating their commitment to their fellowman/woman.

My condolences, from one of his many Girl Scouts.  Hank was a remarkable, funny, and interesting man, and I always appreciated how he felt us girls every bit as deserving of the knowledge he imparted as the boys.  He is missed and remembered fondly.

Jill. Each time I met your Dad he was so very nice.  I know you will miss him.  Prayers for you and your family. Love you all.
