

He was born in Patrick Springs, VA on 07-Nov-1920 to Everett James Mabes and Cora Bullins Mabes. He was a founding member of the Forest Hill Church of the Nazarene, which later became the First Church of the Nazarene on Shattalon Drive in Winston-Salem. He retired from Superior Manufacturing Company having worked there for 59 years until his retirement at the age of 89. He has been a member of the Forest Hill Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years. He rose to the position of Assistant Chief for many years. He was also a member of the Forest Hill and Vienna Civic Clubs.
In addition to his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters, wife Eva Louise Mabes, a son Holland Franklin Mabes Jr. and a daughter Joan Johnson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by 3 daughters Carol Cole widowed by Don, Frances Hubbard widowed by Anthony, Linda Norman widowed by Larry and1 son Henry (Kim). 13 grandchildren, 16 great grand children and 4 great great grandchildren. He had many great friends throughout his life and one special friend these past few years in Ida Martin.
There will be a casual gathering of friends and family Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Voglers on Reynolda Road Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene on Shattalon Drive in Winston-Salem at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Burial will at the Forsyth Memorial park. It will be officiated by Rev Geoff LaLone.
The family would like to express their thanks with the attention that the staff at the Kate B Reynolds Hospice Center gave our dad during his brief visit with them.
