Jim Holmes of Lake Burton, GA passed away on June 5, 2014 after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his son James and his wife Mary of Asheville, NC; daughter, Molly Martin and her husband Joe Martin of Clemmons, NC; and three grandchildren Mary Manning Holmes, Claire and Emma Martin. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Manning R. Holmes, in January of this year. Jim was a resident of Atlanta, GA from 1971 to 2001. Jim worked in investment banking for Kidder Peabody and Morgan Keegan eventually retiring in 2001 as a Senior Vice President. In retirement, Jim lived at Lake Burton, his “Camelot” and became heavily involved in numerous civic organizations. Jim served as President of the Lake Burton Civic Association as well as remaining as an active Director on the LBCA Board. In addition, he served as Treasurer for both Habitat for Humanity- Rabun County and the League of Women Voters- Rabun County. A service will be held privately by the family.
