Joe was born March 15, 1931 in Kernersville to the late James Weldon and Mima Crim Nelson.
He was a 1953 graduate of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill where he was a scholarship donor and a very devoted Ram’s Club member. He was a US Army veteran and worked for RJ Reynolds for 34 years.
Surviving are his loving wife and soul mate, Phyllis Brown Nelson, after 43 years of marriage; three daughters; one son; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one brother, Bobby Crim (Ann) Nelson of Kernersville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2011 at the Mausoleum in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
