

John was born on July 6, 1917, in Berlin, Germany, to Dr. Peter and Maud Pastor. John and his parents immigrated to Medina, Ohio, in 1923. He graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland, Ohio, in 1936.
John was the 10,000th Draftee in Ohio on March 24, 1941. After four and a half years overseas, he was discharged on September 16, 1945.
After forty-three years of service with Ohio Edison (now First Energy), he retired in July, 1982. In 1996 he moved to Bermuda Village, outside Winston-Salem, where he was renowned for founding a Singles Dining Club. He was also active in many civic and business organizations, especially the Chambers of Commerce in Ashland, Springfield, and Stow, Ohio.
His wife, Barbara, preceded him in death in March, 1990. His special friend, Genny Ankrum Shidler, preceded him in death in November, 2000. His brother, Scott Pastor, of Mansfield, Ohio, also predeceased him in January, 2008.
He is survived by good friend Ruth Theros of Bermuda Village and his sister Liz Pastor, of Ashland, Ohio. He is also survived by daughter Randy Moritz, and her husband Fred, of Mansfield, Ohio; daughter Alix Kolt of Stow, Ohio; and son Drew, and his wife Adele, of Columbia, Maryland. Grandchildren include Jeff, Valerie, and Doug Kolt, and Rachel, Vera, and Christopher Pastor. Step-grandchildren are Debbie Ross, Shery Milz, and Don Mortiz and their spouses. He is survived by ten step-great-grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Breanna Kolt, and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by the following families he perceived as his own: Genny Shidler’s two sons; Jay and wife Wallette, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and their daughter and son-in -law Summer and John D’Anna, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; Steve, wife Bruna, and son Kai of San Francisco, California; her sister Mary Alice Bowman and husband Willard, of Boones Mill, Virginia; and Ruth Theros’ daughter and son-in-law Drs. Stephanie and Rick Reid of Lewisville, North Carolina, and their children Leigh Ann and Warren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Bermuda Village in Advance, NC.
