Joe lived a life full of quiet strength, deep curiosity, and unwavering love. Born the third of seven children to Robert Clarence and Audrey Brooks, he faced the loss of his father at just 18, an experience that shaped the resilience, determination, and gentle sense of responsibility he carried throughout his life. He proudly volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam era, working as a rigger in the United States Army, including time stationed in Okinawa, Japan—a place that gave him a lifelong love of sushi and a fascination with the world beyond.
After his military service, Joe built a long and successful career in banking, but his true passions were rooted in life’s smaller joys. He loved books, traveling, riding horses, playing with his dogs, and curling up with his cats. He delighted in window shopping, discovering beauty in everyday things, and always carried a quiet humor that could light up a room. An active member of the Tanglewood Golf Association, Joe spent much of his time golfing with his friends and planning local golf tournaments. Though introverted, Joe never shied away from life; even in his final days when he was joking with his care team, friends, and family- a testament to his courage and spirit.
Joe was devoted to his family, always carrying their well-being in his heart and never stopping his quiet worries for them. He shared 51 years of life with his beloved wife, Diane Brooks, and was the proud father of Jason Brooks (Ari) and Christina Brooks (William). The greatest joy of his final year of life was his grandson, Elliott, who brought laughter and light into his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Clarence Brooks; his mother, Audrey Brooks; and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Brooks and Samuel "Sammy" Brooks; as well as his beloved animal companions Dulcinea, D’Artagnan, Milo, Sammy, Sheila, Bam Bam, Red, and many more.
Joe was beloved by all who knew him—for his gentle strength, his humor, his thoughtfulness, and the deep love he carried for his family and friends. He leaves behind a life rich with courage, joy, and countless memories that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
