

Leo Sienkiewicz, 92, of Pfafftown, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Sienkiewicz was born December 29, 1918 in Erie, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents Karl and Mary (Tuszynska) Sienkiewicz and, in 2006, his wife of sixty one years, Sophia (Gordon) Sienkiewicz. Surviving family includes his daughter Susan Mary Sienkiewicz and his beloved grandson Victor John Sienkiewicz;
Mr. Sienkiewicz attended East High School in Erie, Pennsylvania prior to enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. He was stationed at Wheeler Field on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese and served as Master Sergeant until his Honorary Discharge in 1945. Mr. Sienkiewicz was the State Chairman for the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, North Carolina Chapter No 1. Upon leaving the service, Mr. Sienkiewicz moved to Lakewood, Ohio where he went to work for NASA as an aerospace mechanic for forty two years until his retirement in 1979.
Mr. Sienkiewicz was also preceded in death by his brother Bill (wife Marie) of Detroit; and sisters Marcella of Milwaukee and Irene of Erie. Mr. Sienkiewicz is also survived by his brother in law John J. Gordon and his wife Dee of Kernersville; cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Avenue, Winston-Salem (336-724-0561). Burial in Forsyth Memorial Park will follow, including full military honors. Family and friends will visit on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 Pm at the Vogler Funeral Home Reynolda Chapel, a Dignity Memorial Provider, 2951 Reynolda Road (336-722-6106).
