

Opal was born January 13, 1926 to Herman Grady Speas and Sudie Blanch Posey Speas. She grew up in the Old Town community of W-S and graduated from Old Town School. Opal retired from the W-S Forsyth County School System after 22 years in food services. She then helped operate Stoneman Realty and Services with her husband. She was a former member of the Home Extension Club and was an avid baker. She was a long time member of Becks Baptist Church where she held many positions over the years including assisting the children in Training Union, WMU member, Records secretary, and Outreach leader in her Sunday School Class. Opal was passionate about her pets and “grand” dogs. Opal loved roses and kept a beautiful rose garden.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her sisters, Lila Disher, Ruth Chandler Huffman, Lois Fulcher, and brother, James Speas, and her husband of 56 years, James Newell Stoneman.
Opal is survived by 2 daughters, Jamie Castlebury and husband Fleming of Winston Salem and Jewel Dick and husband Andy Dick of Augusta, GA, and a granddaughter, Angela Dick.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10 from 1 to 2pm at Becks Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Dr. Ricky Speas and Dr. Karl Minor officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vienna Village for their love and care during Opal’s time there of over 5 ½ years.
