Ted was born in Union Grove on July 15, 1935 to the late John Marvey and Lessie Gregory Cass. After high school, he joined the United States Navy Reserves and served for 7 years. Ted worked for the City of Winston Salem as an inspector. He was a lifetime member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Ted was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He especially loved rabbit hunting with his friends, Jimmy Blizzard and Larry Coleman. Ted proudly coached his sons baseball teams while they were growing up. He was a true family man. Ted was always going above and beyond for his family, whether it was staying up all night as the “pit master” BBQ-ing for the annual family party with his sons, taking his grandchildren to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood each summer, playing beautician with his great-granddaughters, or doting on his wife’s every need. Ted was always there with a humble heart and a sweet smile.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie Wooten Cass; great grandson, Zachary Clodfelter; and brothers, Rudolph, J.M., and Buford Cass. He leaves behind his sons, Duane (Jackie) Cass and Brian (Crystal) Cass; grandchildren, Alan “Trey” (Jordan) Millen, Meredith (Drew) Ausley, Shannon (Will) Bowman, Morgan (Dustin) Clodfelter, Caroline Cass, and Lydia (Nathan) Pope; great grandchildren, Banks Millen, Holland Bowman, Lacey Clodfelter, Carly Clodfelter, Sadie Pope, Gaston Bowman, and Zenora Clark; sister and bingo partner, Wilma Teague; and numerous nieces and nephews, and loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 6-8pm at Frank Vogler & Sons in Clemmons. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2pm at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Union Grove. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service. Ted will be laid to rest next to Connie in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Ted’s honor to Sweet Home Baptist Church.
