She was born on August 22, 1949 in Columbus County to the late Samuel Worth Batten and Lonnie Mae Batten.
She was preceded in death by her Brother, Larry Batten and Sister, Hattie Watts.
She is survived by a Son, Ian Phillips, three (3) Grandchildren, Tessa, Cameron and London Phillips, two (2) Brothers, Sammy Batten and Willie Batten and two (2) sisters, Sandra Berdeaux and Kathy Soles.
Shirley was a graduate of Hallsboro High School and attended Virginia Western Community College, New River Community College and Western Carolina University. She spent her career in retail management.
A private graveside service will be held in Bladenboro, NC.
