DR. ANTHONY "TONY" SYDNEY TAVILL, age 80, passed away July 21, 2016. Beloved husband of Anne Tavill (nee Rayburn) for nearly 57 years; devoted father of Leonore (David) Paragas of New Albany, OH, Dr. Michael (Judi) Tavill of Rumson, NJ and Stephanie (Adam) Kushner of Bethesda, MD; loving grandfather of Zachary and Zoe Paragas, Jake and Sam Tavill, Caleb and Emma Kushner; dear brother of Adrian (Janet) Tavill of the Isle of Wight, England; cherished cousin of Roberta and Raymond Cohen of London, England and Fred and Joyce Tavill of Shaker Hts., OH. Adored and respected by his family and countless friends, colleagues and patients, Tony was a pillar of the medical community in Cleveland for over 40 years. He was Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the recipient of prestigious honors and awards for his teaching and contributions to the study of liver disease and the clinical practice of hepatology. Following his training and medical practice in England, Tony emigrated in 1975 with his family to Cleveland. He continued his distinguished career at Metropolitan General Hospital then served as the Morton Stone Professor of Digestive and Liver Disorders at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Digestive Diseases Institute. He held leadership roles in national medical associations and was a regular contributor to and editor of many liver and gastroenterology books and journals. When he was not traveling the world sharing his limitless knowledge of hepatology, he loved spending time with his family and dear friends. Services will be held at BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. TAYLOR RD., CLEVELAND HTS. on Sunday, July 24 at 1 PM. Interment Bet Olam Cemetery (Park Synagogue section). The family will receive friends SUNDAY FOLLOWING BURIAL UNTIL 8 PM, MONDAY AND TUESDAY FROM 2 TO 4 AND 6 TO 8 PM ONLY in the Chelsea Apartments Community Room, 3330 Warrensville Ctr. Rd., Shaker Hts.
