Ellen Rosenthal

Ellen Rosenthal passed away on January 21, 2026. She was born on June 5, 1938, to Philip and Lillie Passan.

Ellen was a deeply creative and compassionate woman. An accomplished artist, her paintings filled her grandson’s room, and her talents also included pottery, singing, and concert piano. Her love of music and art was matched by her devotion to people—family, friends, and the many lives she touched through her work as a social worker. Ellen’s warmth, talent, and generosity of spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. She was also a devoted caregiver to her daughter, Marcie Rosenthal.

Ellen is survived by her son, Todd Rosenthal (Lisa); her beloved grandchildren, Audra, Jack, and Noah Rosenthal; and her sister, Janie Meckler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James Rosenthal; her daughter, Marcie Rosenthal; and her brother-in-law, Joe Meckler.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 South Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, 44118. Private interment. The family will receive at Congregation Mishkan Or 26000 Shaker Blvd. Beachwood, OH.44122 on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 2pm to 5pm.
