Esther will be missed and remembered by her children: Linda Post of Beachwood, OH, Shelly Izzi (Carmen) of Jessup, MD, Marc Post (Susan) of Auburn, WA, Alison Shockley (Tony) of Powell, OH and Gail Post (Chris Wolaver) of Old Hickory, TN. Grandchildren Rashid, Sara (Jason), Caroline, Anna (Logan), Becca (Josh), Tia, Ethan, Sam, Jordan and great-grandchild Ryder; sister Billie Williamson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She will also be dearly missed by her Mt. Sinai Hospital Nursing School Classmates. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Harvey J. Post, MD and her sisters, Helen, Shirley, Mary, and Nancy.
Originally from Ashtabula, OH, she left home after graduating from Edgehill High School to come to Cleveland, OH, where she gained admission to the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing. She successfully completed Nursing School in 1952 despite negotiating the storm of the century in 1950 where she ran the supply department single handedly for the entire hospital as other employees were unable to travel. She met her husband-to-be in the cafeteria of Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was a resident and they were married on June 19, 1953, the same day as the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Together they were active in S.A.N.E. (Committee for the sane nuclear Policy), the Civil Rights Movement, and the anti-war movement. They were founding members of the Jewish Secular Community, and Ida went on to found one of the first women’s Consciousness Raising groups. She joined Temple Tifreth Israel (now Congregation Mishkan Or) in 2010 and was an active member of the Seniors Committee. For the past 30 years, Ida attended classes at the Cleveland Museum of Art with her nursing school classmates.
Her proudest accomplishment of all was her family. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts, family camping, teaching her children to drive and was the Mom other kids went to for comfort and support. Her door was always open to children and adults alike.
Her dedication to justice and equality for all will be remembered and carried on for generations.
