

Jerry was a devoted husband to Phyllis “Tracy”, a loving father to Courtney (Aaron) Evenchik, Benjamin (Jakana Thomas) Appel, and Chad (Denny Johnson) Appel, and an over-indulging grandfather to Rabbi Betzalel (Hindi), Shayna, Zacharia, Max, and Noah.
He is also survived by a sister, Bonnie (Gary) Hildebrand, brothers-in-law Mark (Jill) Friedman and David (Enid) Friedman.
After attending Cleveland Heights High School, he received his accounting degree from Ohio State University and became a certified public accountant. Jerry had his own accounting firm for many years, was involved in local and state CPA societies, and retired from Marcum in 2022 after an illustrious career of over 50 years in accounting. He was also a co-owner of Wickliffe Lanes.
Jerry was proud of his Jewish heritage and was a member of Temple Israel Ner Tamid, served on the boards of Friendship Circle of Cleveland, the Hillel Foundation of Greater Cleveland, and several other charitable organizations.
A funeral service will be held on May 5, 2025 at 11am at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel at 1985 S. Taylor Road in Cleveland Heights followed by interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Solon. To view this service, please scroll down to the Services Section and click on “JOIN LIVESTREAM”.
Family will receive friends immediately following interment at Temple Israel Ner Tamid, 1732 Lander Rd., Mayfield Hts. 44124 until 4:30pm. Monday Evening at the Appel Residence, 18075 Chanticleer Ct. Auburn Township 44023 7-9PM and Tuesday & Wednesday 1-4PM& 7-9PM. Remaining Shiva will be held at the Evenchik residence. Please contact the family for information.
