

Howard Sanford Stern, 91, passed away peacefully in Beachwood, Ohio on December 6th. He was born to Ben and Fannie (nee Gottesman) Stern in Cleveland, Ohio on January 21st, 1929. His brothers (Milton and Marcus) and sister (Harriet (Stark)) predeceased him. He married Lenore Heiman on December 31, 1950, and with her had three children (Craig, Kathy (Weaver), and Brian) by whom they have had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Howard earned a B. Sc. ('50) from The Ohio State University, playing football on the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams. He earned an LL. B. ('56) from Western Reserve University. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, with duty in Korea from 1951 to 1953.
Howard practiced law in the Cleveland area for nearly six decades, mostly in private practice but also as Prosecutor, Assistant Law Director, and Law Director for the City of Warrensville Heights, and as Acting Judge for Bedford Municipal Court. He was very active in local politics and civic affairs, including as Township Trustee for Warrensville Township.
Howard was especially known for his sharp intellect, ready wit, and dedication to serve.
Howard was a practicing attorney in Greater Cleveland, serving proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict. Friends who wish may contribute to the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.
