Iris Rubinfield passed away Friday at the age of 98. She was the long-time president of Master Manufacturing Company which she operated with her father, Melvin Rose, and her husband, Don Rubinfield. After Melvin retired, and following Don's death in 1979, Iris took charge of the company. The business flourished, and so did she, despite the fact that she was one of the only women in the manufacturing industry. Under her stewardship, Master Manufacturing became highly successful.
When Iris received the Excellence in Enterprise Award for Manufacturing/High Technology from the State of Ohio, she became the first female winner in the state and the first person to have it renewed. She was repeatedly recognized for her business acumen, and her awards fill an entire room. She continued her full-time work until reaching the age of 95.
Iris didn't always yearn for the business world. Her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon) celebrated her accomplishments as an actress. She continued to keep her hand in the theatre at Heights High School, where she directed 9 successful musicals with casts of up to 150 students. An avid gardener, her yard was always blooming with wildflowers and dahlias, and indoors, she cultivated orchids. Other interests included Asian art, bridge, and international travel. She was one of the Browns' most passionate fans, a season ticket owner for over 60 years, attending games even at the age of 90.
But her greatest love was for her family and friends, her daughters, Penny Heinzmann and Pam Vestal, her grandchildren, Luke Heinzmann and Brandon, Kasey, and Courtney Vestal, and her dear friends and family both at work and at home, to whom she was absolutely devoted. Iris was an amazing woman, warm, giving, kind, charitable, loving, hard-working, and honorable, and she will be sorely missed.
