Dear Debby,Alan and family...it is with great sadness and difficulty that I am writing this....though Joel and I parted ways many years ago, we remained friends and stayed in touch occasionally. Calling occasionally just to say hi..hope all is well. While I knew he was ill, I didn't truly grasp just to what extent. So yesterday on July 30...I tried to call and wish him Happy 70th Birthday..and found instead this page. The wave of emotions have no words.He will have a special place in my heart forever. We were so saddened to hear of our beloved friend Joel's passing. He was a true artist, friend and entertained everyone he met with his remarkable quick wit. We will miss him dearly! Condolences to the family. RIP

Debby, Alan and family, I am so sorryto learn about Joel's passing. Joel was such a caring and sensitive soul, he made the world a better place with his intelligence, humor and his own take on things. I remember after we saw the movie "Moscow on the Hudson", Joel was able to do a Scottish,Yiddish, Russian and possibly with a little French thrown in, accent, all at once. .

I always called him, "Joely" with a slight Yiddish accent of a Polish Jew just escaped from the ghetto. He fwould alsways respond in the same manner, "Rogie, vuks machts, baby?" I will miss hearing that. I will miss the friendship that began in 1969 in a rooming house off of Summit Street in Kent, Ohio. It's where I also met Burr Anderson and Al Elkins. It was where the three of us created The Monday Sneaker, a wonderful underground mimeographed satire and humor one-sheet that we woiuld distribute in Daily Kent Stater boxes on Monday, since the Daily Kent stater was never distributed on Monday. We were oh so subversive. 
Over the years, Joel and I would work for my father's business, Ideal Dispensers, shlepping fountain syrup and CO2 cylinders into restaurants and bars from Short Vincent to Mentor. After college we lived in the Coventry Road area. During all that time Joel continued to write poetry and short stories. He worked at Rogar and made beautiful pieces of jewelery out of discarded watches and findings.
Today, I was surprised at the sadness I felt when I deleted my friend Joel's entry from my Iphone's database. It was a simple thing to do. Just a light touch, a tap here and there on the computer screen and Joel was gone. That's when I started to tear. Gone from my phone but not from my memory. As the great Persian poet Kahlil Gibran wrote in his epic poem, The Prophet, "A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me."

We first met at Tri-C in 1967. A young man of many imaginations and humors. Joel brought his unique passion for the ironies and the absurdities. My sympathies to the family at the passing of this one of a kind.

My brother Joel was a truly caring and loving person who firmly believed in his faith and this is what helped him most throughout his life.  His laughter always ran rampant in our home growing up, He was creative, talented and always had many friends. These last seven years of Joel's life brought us closer together despite his illnesses prompting  this, quite a gift for me. Joel had many struggles in his life, such a sensitive soul who fought for every breath. He always spoke well of all his friends and especially, all those who took the time to visit with him these last months. I'll miss my brother very much and our frequent calls.  Debby Garson Siebert
