Karen was a dynamic woman, witty, and creative. A lover of family, the ocean and nature. She was extremely loyal to the people and causes in her life, a true Eshet Chayil, a woman of valor. Her tenacity was legendary and greatly appreciated.
Karen spent her professional years working with her mother Lee at Bon Kay Fashions. She enjoyed merchandising, creating displays, and traveling to NYC for buying trips.
Karen was active in community in both Cleveland and Jensen Beach, FL with her many friends and family. She was a lover of sea glass, the beach, kayaking, and traveling. She loved to create, favoring the mediums of ceramics and watercolors. Her finished works are displayed in the homes of her sons and grandchildren. She was an outstanding cook having prepared countless Friday night and holiday meals. Karen loved her volunteer efforts with Brandeis Women, National Council of Jewish Women, and Thriftique.
Family was always most important to Karen. Spending time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren often involved family dinners and much laughter. She enjoyed a close bond with her sister in law Karen Roe Steiger and they shared many years of adventures and activities together.
Karen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard, sisters Rhoda( Herbert-deceased) Agin and Sheila(Allan) Farkas, sons Andrew (Wendy Cicek), and David (Mindy), grandchildren Eli Steiger, Mariah Steiger (Jerry Johnson), Allegra Steiger (Kevin Lissemore), Chelsea Custozzo (Adam), Carly Bremenour, and Scott Newkirk, great grandchildren Luke, Beau, Jane, Tess Custozzo and Willa Kells. She thought fondly of all of her many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, May 23 at 2:30 PM at the BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL 1985 S. Taylor Rd. Cleveland Heights, OH. Interment Bet Olam Cemetery.
Family will observe Shiva at the residence 29925 S. Woodland Blvd. Pepper Pike Thursday following services until 8pm, Friday 1pm-4pm (Minyan at 7:30 AM), SUNDAY 2PM-8PM (MINYAN AT 7:30 AM and PM), MONDAY,TUESDAY 2pm-8pm (Minyan at 7:30 AM and PM) AND WEDNESDAY Minyan at 7:30 AM.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, and the National Council of Jewish Women/Thriftique.
