Lewis Miller Goodman, age 87, passed away peacefully this week. Lewis was born and raised in Shaker Heights. He was a lifer at University School, and a proud alumnus of Dartmouth College. Lewis dedicated his entire professional life to banking, where he worked for several regional and community banks, including Independence Bank, MBNA, National City Bank, and US Bank. He started his career as a commercial loan officer and advanced to become President of Independence Bank. Lewis spent his retirement playing golf, watching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved sharing stories about his life with his family and continued that tradition by making and reliving them with his grandchildren.
An avid athlete, Lewis served as captain of his tennis team at US and also played basketball. In his youth, he spent many summers at Camp Wigwam, forming lifelong friendships, and was a member of Pi Lambda Phi, maintaining connections with brothers across the country.
A lifelong learner and meticulous in all he did, Lewis was known for his attention to detail and love of knowledge. It was important for him to learn not only about the world around him, but about those closest to him, constantly remembering even the smallest details about them.
Lewis is survived by his partner of many years, Janet Lewis; stepchildren Rob Dubyak and Susan Lenahan (Brian); and grandchildren Rachel, Jordan and Lainey Dubyak, and Maddie and Ryan Lenahan; and his son, Tony Crabbe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha, and daughter, Terry Ann.
Private funeral services have been held.
The family will be sitting Shiva on Sunday, February 8th from 12:00 – 4:00 pm at 3040 Bremerton Road, in Pepper Pike.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Terry Ann Goodman Fund at John Carroll University.
Arrangements were made under the supervision of Berkowitz Kumin Bookatz Memorial Chapel.
