It's amazing how certain things linger in one's memory!  I recall meeting Lew in my hometown of Steubenville, Ohio, when he was in his late teens.  Our parents were friends at that time.  Later, I was surprised to learn he and my cousin Louise Cooper from Pittsburgh were engaged to be married.  I didn't even know they were dating!
    I remember telling Louise's parents, my Aunt Betty and Uncle Abe Cooper, that Louise's future husband was such a "nice guy" who would make sure Louise would always be happy.  Uncle Abe sarcastically joked, "What do you know?  You're not even a teen-ager!"  This was possibly 70 years ago!
    Their marriage was a loving, caring relationship.  Both Lew and Louise served as role models their entire adult life for many others
- especially their relatives and work colleagues.

This was at a big gathering in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the life of cousin Estele  (Stella) Keren.  Jay Cooper, Louise Cooper Sternberg, and Lew were looking at photos and articles about the family.

This photo is one of my favorites of Lew and Louise.  Taken in Buffalo when they came to visit Ari and Nicole when I was visiting .  We all had such fun together. What a wonderful couple, what great role models for so many of us. They are forever in my heart.

Back when my wife and I were in grad school, Lew & Louise drove up to Buffalo and we went out for dinner. Lew had a new GPS for the car and wanted to try it out so we put the name of the restaurant in and headed out. Really out! As we headed out of town Nicole and I said we didn't think it was taking us the right way but Lew said this is where it wants us to go and we all agreed that it was a good adventure. Ended up in another town where there was another restaurant with that name and everyone had an excellent time. 

They were some of our favorite cousins, and we loved popping in during road trips to spend a night or two hanging out and getting ice cream with them.

Marcy, I am so sorry to hear this news.  Our parents got together because of us over 60 years ago! They had a long, enduring friendship with lots of laughs and good times.  My mom shares in sending our condolences to you and Mark.

Your parents were so wonderful and I have loved them since the moment I met them in about 1960 when you moved across the street from us and the rest has been a wonderful history. They were a couple that set the bar high as an example for all. They had great times together, and being around them you could just feel the love and  joy. They were so much fun and so interesting and always had a smile. They made me feel so loved every time I would run into them and talk to them. Mr. and Mrs. Sternberg, may you rest in peace.  Marcy, Weisman Bern.

The best thing I could do around Lew was listen, nod and smile.  I could not be a big enough sponge to soak up all the knowledge and information he sent in my direction.  Topping that was the fact that he was also a great listener.  I will miss the opportunities I won’t have to ask him so many more questions.  Rest to you, Lew and peace to your family and friends!

We lost a good one. Lew was a gifted engineer and an amazing lighting designer.  I was  lighting rep salesperson and he always treated me as an equal. We had many enjoyable lunches together and he was an amazing listener. We had a lot of fun. As great as he was as a professional engineer he was even a better person

I only knew Lew a short time, but we became friends at once. A nicer person I can't imagine. He will be greatly missed. The best description is a REAL MENCH!!
