Margaret Warner (Jacobowitz) passed away on November 12, 2017 at the age of 95 after a brief illness. She is survived by her son Donald Warner and daughter-in-law Dr. Cheryl Warner of Brookline, MA, daughter Dr. Susan Warner and daughter-in-law Ann Ballard of Evanston, IL, grandchildren Rebecca Breheney (Jesse), Rachel Parker (Josh), Megan Camacho (Carl), James Ballard, Charles and Samantha Warner, great granddaughters Ruth and Zadie Breheney, and her brother Mark and sister-in-law Arlene Jacoby of Bet Shemesh, Israel. She was predeceased by her husband Sigmund Warner (Weinberger), and her parents and other siblings who perished in the holocaust. Margaret was born in what was then Czechoslovakia in a tiny village called Legina. Her family lived on a small farm, which she tended to with her father. She also helped her mother raise five younger brothers and sisters. One of her fondest memories was teaching her siblings to read. Her dream was to become a school teacher. Margaret was able to escape to America after the Nazis invaded her homeland in 1939. In America she lived briefly with family in New York City but soon afterwards, had to move out and find work to support herself. She was never able to go back to school. She met her soon to be husband, Sigmund Warner (Weinberger) in 1943. They married a week later, just days before he was deployed to an army training camp and then to the Pacific making multiple heroic landings with MacArthur’s forces. He reached the rank of Military Policeman. After the war Margaret found her brother Mark and brought him to America. Margaret and Sigmund settled in South Euclid, Ohio, where they lived for about 50 years before retiring to Florida. In Florida she became an accomplished bridge player. After Sigmund’s death in 2009 at the age of 97 she divided her time between Florida and Massachusetts where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law until her death. Although Margaret never achieved her American dream of attending college, she was able to experience it through her children’s and grandchildren’s educational and professional achievements. Margaret will be laid to rest next to Sigmund at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Solon, Ohio on Friday, November 17 at 11 AM. The family will receive friends FRIDAY FOLLOWING BURIAL UNTIL 6 PM AND SATURDAY FROM 2–6 PM in the home of Don and Mary Ann Lannoch (sister of daughter-in-law Cheryl) at 7071 Navaho Trail, in Solon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Jewish Family Service of Cleveland. Arrangements through BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, (800) 448-2210
