Marilyn was born in Cleveland, raised in an Orthodox Jewish home in Cleveland Heights, to Joseph and Ruth Grumet. She and identical twin sister Doris Liberman were the youngest of the beloved Grumet Girls, pre-deceased by older sisters Esther Perlick and Phyllis Klein. Each of the sisters had three children all of whom grew up together, within 5 miles of one another, celebrating every holiday and birthday together until the birds began to leave the nests.
Married 40 years, Oct. 31, 1954 - December 23, 1995, to Dr. Sanford J. Arons (deceased.) Their
3 children: Nancy Arons (Jon Sicoransa), Susie Arons (Bob Augustitus), Billy Arons, were born and raised in Beachwood, having attended the Beachwood Public Schools from Grade K - 12. Marilyn was an avid community advocate, working tirelessly on school bond issue funding, rallying for sidewalks with Bryden School neighborhood parents, chairing middle school and high school fundraising and cultural programming committees. She was an active member of the Temple on the Heights, in its original Cleveland Heights location as well as the move to its current location in Pepper Pike.
4 grandchildren: Aron Augustitus, Jeremy Augustitus, Ava Arons and Annie Arons
Marilyn and Sandy prioritized family and adventure, traveling on more than one occasion across the country, North, South, East and West by motorhome, exploring cities and towns big and small. Annual pilgrimages to New Jersey and New York City to visit family, take in Broadway shows and perhaps devour the marquee stores along Fifth Avenue never stopped until Marilyn's body began to slow down. An avid antique collector and road trip warrior, Marilyn logged many miles venturing from Ohio to Pennsylvania on any given Saturday. Gathering with friends old and new for bridge, Scrabble and mahjong games was a forever joy, as was the symphony, the opera, lectures and conversations with politicians, changemakers and best-selling authors. As the kids moved beyond their Beachwood roots, settling in NY, NJ and Arizona, Marilyn's suitcases were always packed and ready for a family visit.
In 2020, Marilyn moved to northern NJ where she lived happily, forming new friendships in her smaller, tighter group homes. She died peacefully in her sleep among her Fox Trails community loved ones on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
