A friend recently gave me TRUSTING CALVIN to read.  It took longer than I thought.  I had a hard time reading about the atrocities that Max endured during the war. I just read Mr. Edelman's story in "You've Got to Read this Book".   What a wonderful man, his story touched my heart deeply. Best story in the whole book.   You must be very proud of him.   God guide you all gently through your mourning.

My husband Ronald, and I, offer our belated condolences to the famiy of Max Edelman.  He was truly a genuine inspiration to all who knew him.  He is greatly missed by many people today.

Thank you Max Edelman and family for sharing Max's story with Calvin, Boychick and Tobi. I just finished the book "Trusting Calvin" and wanted to write to Max. I am sadden to hear he has passed but know he has also found Peace with God. I never met him, but I experience some of his frustration with losing his sight as I teach children with visual impairments and always want to give them the freedom a guide dog can if they want it. Magnificat High School sends its condolences and prayers to the Edelman Family. Mr. Edelman spoke to our students a few years ago in partnership with Facing History & Ourselves, and he touched so many, so deeply, including our own recent graduate, Macey Nauman, who he met through Guiding Eyes. We are honored that he spoke at our school and saddened by his death. A true hero!

Our daughter Deborah Kraut met Max when she worked at the Cleveland Sight Center almost 20 years ago. She never stopped talking about him in all those years..He was an example of resilience and beauty she spoke of to all her clients to the present, having left Cleveland 15 yrs ago.They never lost touch and when she visited Cleveland, she always had to visit her dear friend Max..What a 
testament to a most special bond. Thank you, Max, for touching her life and teaching her so much.

The encounter with Max was the most moving experience of my entire time in FlossenbÃ¼rg since I am working in the memorial. I often remember the days together with him, the conversations in the classrooms, the trip to Amberg, many interviews with film people and journalists. We will honor his memory, here in the archives and exhibitions, but especially in our hearts.

I met Max briefly at an Elie Wiesel speaking engagement, I believe at St. Ignatius. He was a gentle soul, very resilient, and a lovely person. Thank you, Max, for being a reminder of how senseless cruelty and ignorance can't wipe out the human spirit. You have your eyes back now, and I hope you can enjoy what you see. You will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Max was the most amazing & resilient human I have ever met.  He was youthful in spirit and had a wisdom beyond any expectation.  He was kind and generous and will be missed immensely.  One of his greatest fears he had, was to die and the history of The Holocaust dying with him; as he loved to educate people with this monumental part of history (as a tribute to Max, if we could all continue to remember and engage in conversation of what they all went through).  Thoughts and prayers to his beloved family and to anyone whose path he ever crossed, as our lives have forever been changed simply because we knew him.

I only knew Max from what I read about him. I alway's will remember him and his brisk walks. I would often say to my wife "have you seen Max? I hope he is alright." Max will be missed in our neighborhood and in the Jewish community. We will miss you Max.

Max was a truly extraordinary man. I began volunteering with Guiding Eyes in 2001 and met Max soon after.  As a puppy raiser, I  am often asked "how can you give up that pup?" My response has always been "you have to meet my friend Max." My thoughts, prayers and love are with the family and community. Fondly, Jeannie Fleming-Gifford, Mark Gifford and Ella (who Max always referred to as his "princess").

Max was a Holocaust survivor and a long time speaker for the Face to Face Holocaust Education Program at Congregation Shaarey Tikvah.  He also spoke at many schools and colleges.  He was always inspirational and he will be most sorely missed.  At Face to Face, we are fortunate that Max was part of our video project so that we will be able to continue to hear and remember his words for many years to come.  May Max's memory be for a blessing.
