

He was the beloved husband of Adrienne (née Maeroff), loving father of Brian and Kevin, and Marla Aistrope, adored grandfather of Charlie, Eliana, Hannah, Joey, Tova Wasserman and Rowan Aistrope, and brother of Sara and Paul.
Mel graduated from Shaker Heights High School and received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University, a Masters Degree from Kent State and an Educational Specialist Degree from John Carroll University.
Mel started his career as a sixth grade teacher in the South Euclid/Lyndhurst school district where he remained as an elementary school principal until he took early retirement and became Assistant Director of the Gross Schechter Day School. After retirement, he worked part-time teaching a masters program at Ursuline College.
Mel’s dedication, compassion and love for children was evident to all who knew him, especially students, parents and staff.
He loved playing his saxophone in a jazz big band, but nothing compared to his love for his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, understanding and the support he gave to those who knew him.

Shiva will be immediately following the funeral until 4 P.M. and 6 - 8 P.M.; Monday - Wednesday 1 - 4 P.M and 6 - 8 P.M; Thursday 1 - 4 P.M. at the residence.
