I will remember him for the personality that he put into his technical writing; Michael made the cold technical world a warmer place.

Oh no. He was one of the best Access contributors around, always willing to share, without reservation. A role model for our community. My husband died at 45, I feel your loss. It just plain hurts.

Please accept my condolences for Michael's passing. I had the honor of knowing him for the past 20 years primarily through the Microsoft Access community. He was a talented developer who demanded excellence, shared his knowledge (and opinions) freely, and raised the bar for everyone. The thought of him brings a smile to my face as I see his broad smile and sparkle in his eyes. So sad to leave us so soon. RIP.

I am so sorry for your loss. Michael and I were classmates at BHS. He was very witty and nice to talk with. He will be very missed.

I truly enjoyed every conversation I had with Michael. He was always happy to share his thoughts, opinions, give advice or share a laugh. He will be greatly missed!

So sorry to hear about Michael's passing.
Michael was smart, funny, extremely competent and did not suffer fools gladly - all great qualities in my book.
I was lucky enough to work with him on international topics at Microsoft and enjoyed our interactions tremendously. I'll keep his laugh in my heart.

From the first time I met Michael, I began to learn what drive and compassion merged together could do. He tirelessly campaigned for what was right for all people in all languages and when MS started to weigh heavy, he just grew more resolved and more resolute. He's an inspiration I can share with my children and coworkers.

Michael's passing was a complete surprise. I had only recently reconnected with him since we knew each other in 1999, when he made me go see the movie "Notting Hill" with him six times! He could be such a goofball, but would give you the shirt off his back while coaxing you back down to earth with cool logic. A truly brilliant and unique individual willing to share his knowledge with anyone who might value it. Mr. and Mrs. Kaplan, and the entire family, I offer you my condolences, but also my thanks for giving us such a determined and hard-working individual who impacted so many lives in so many ways around the world. His absence will be felt. His memory will be cherished

You'll always be more loved and remembered than you'll ever know.

Please accept my condolences at Michael's passing. He was one of the best friends I ever had. We started our careers at Microsoft at around the same time, so I saw from early on how special he was. Not only was he brilliant, he was also kind, generous with sharing his knowledge, and brave. I never heard him complain about his afflictions, and he was always there to help a friend in need, whether the issue was a trivial question or a traumatic life event. The world is a poorer place now that he is no longer in it, and I can only imagine the grief his family must feel at this terrible loss.

Michael was in incredible man: boundless intelligence combined with a compassionate heart. He attempted to hide his gentle nature with a fun loving exterior but his true compassion always came through. May his memory be a blessing to everyone he touched and may he be an advocate for all. BHS(class of 88).

Smart, funny, competent, friendly, kind all these words describe Michael. I am so sorry to learn of his passing, and I hope Michael's family will take comfort in the knowledge that he touched many lives in his too-short life. I worked with Michael on the Unicode Technical Committee in the 1990s and 2000s, and always enjoyed talking and debating with him. He will be missed.

Michael is a trusted and true friend I will always remember. I've never met anyone like him, and I can imagine you, his family, are proud he's yours. You gave a great gift to the world (I can hear him saying something funny about being God's gift right now), and I'm glad I got to know him for even as long and as much as I did. I am sorry for my loss of dear friend, but it pales in comparison to your loss, for which you have my deep sympathy and condolences.

Literally shocked to come to know that Microsoft's Michael Kaplan is no more. I had my biggest opportunity to interview him when he came to attend Tamil Internet Conference' held at Coimbatore. Language computing community miss you a lot, Michael. We salute your long flighting of 25 years with multiple sclerosis.

Michael was a very special person. Always at the ready to help others, and a significant presence at Microsoft, he was a friend and (I mean this in the most loving way possible) a fellow curmudgeon ready to right the wrongs of technology in the world. I miss him terribly.

Michael's life and efforts touched the lives of many people working in internationalization and with Unicode. He called a spade a spade, and I have always respected him for that. He will be missed by countless people who benefitted from his time on our precious planet, either directly or indirectly. RIP.

I always enjoyed my conversations with Michael. He would stop by my office, peek through the opening of my door just to ask a quick question or inform me of something and before we knew it we were having an inspiring conversation. He was always happy and strong and his sense of humor was limitless. I remember when he kind of all scared us arriving with a shaved head at work. We all thought something bad had happened but he had just shaved for a Halloween costume. He knew how to get our attention and he definitely got it. I will miss him.

Michael has many friends and admirers around the world. He was a pillar of the Microsoft Access community and leaves big shoes that cannot be filled.
He went on to achieve success in other endeavors, but his wit, insight and charm will be deeply missed by those of us who knew him in our MS Access community.
