Nina Frankel

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Nina Frankel (98), a Holocaust Survivor, beloved wife of the late Leon. Loving mother of the late Michael (Lydia) Frankel, the late Anita (Ken) Moss, and Melissa (Leonard) Frankel. Nina was the proud grandmother of Jordan (Ilana) and the late Elisa Moss; Ariel (Sabreen), Morell (Eran), and Danielle Frankel; and Lauren, Erica, and Adam Kahn; and was a devoted great-grandmother to Zoe, Adeline, and Emmett Moss. Born December 28, 1926, in Zloczow, Poland, Nina was just thirteen years old during the Holocaust, where she was the sole survivor of her family. Nina dedicated her life to sharing her story which has been memorialized by the United States Holocaust Museum and was a regular voice in schools across Cleveland for decades. Nina was not just a survivor but also a talented writer, dancer, cook, and proudly built her own home in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Above all, Nina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was committed to keeping our Jewish and family traditions alive and ensured that the critical lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten. She celebrated this Passover with her whole family as we carried out our rich and tradition-filled Seders where she notably said, “let’s make a picture and send it to the Jewish news!”. To honor her wish, we are sharing our family photo from this year’s Seder. Her story can be listened to here. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4 at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Chapel, 1985 S Taylor Rd, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118. The Family will receive friends at their residence, 2517 Cedarwood Rd. Pepper Pike, Ohio 44124 immediately following the burial until 8pm.. SUNDAY ONLY. Donations can be made to Kol Israel and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.
