A tremendous depth to that man - It was truly a pleasure knowing him, receiving his valuable advice to life's questions and envisioning his breadth of vision. Tough loss for those who knew him - my condolences to Rachel, Eve and Iahn and their families.

Roy was a man of charm and grace and loved art deeply. I learned alot from him many years ago, not least about  South Africa and carpets but also about looking at life with a philosophical eye and a certian distance. He loved his kids and that moved me in him. Also he was that rare thing, an ethical business man,who seemed to think business was a way to show goodness. Not many like that...

Mark Koslow, an old friend

From oriental rugs, to big band trombone, to motorcycles, to radio-control aircraft...he was a true renaissance man and friend.  Always with a profound opinion, delivered with a smile.  He will be greatly missed.

Roy, what a guy! I was impressed with your charm and worldliness from the first time I met you at Joe and Eve's wedding with my little flower girl daughter in tow. That cool player piano you had in the house; the beautiful array of desert rugs, tents; the great carpets and exotica. Your stories were always great, especially the time you drifted off in Lake Erie after falling asleep on the sailboat. I'm sorry I never got to take that sailing trip you offered me. Carpe Diem! You never know what will happen. I loved that time you came up to Sonoma County and we tasted wine. You will be missed my friend. With great sorrow I bid you adieu. Reed.

Roy was a sailors sailor.  A warm gentleman who took the time to share his life experiences, and to teach others.    His presence will be missed at FCYC.

I worked briefly with Roy way back when - at Higbee's downtown on the 6th floor when he first opened the Oriental rug department there. 
His presence is one of my fondest memories of that time. He was a gentle, fun, knowledgeable, dynamic and truly interesting gentleman. 
I am sorry for your loss and wish all of you peace and the best of remembrances. Roy was quite a guy.

Dear Rachel, Eve, Iahn and Families,

It is with heartfelt saddnes that we offer our condolences. Roy was a wonderful person and a great man in our eyes and to many in our Cleveland area.  He was a true friend to us. We will always remember his infectious laugh and enthusiam for his family, business and many hobbies.

I will always remember with pleasure the visit of Roy Gonsenhauser in Bad Berleburg and I am very glad to have met him. My thoughts are with his family.

Thinking of all of you at this time and remembering with fondness, tinged now with sadness, the many fine times we had over the years.

"I want to leave good traces behind me" - Roy said this sentence about a custom-made rug, which was damaged while the transport. (The damage was tiny and for a common person invisible.) 
We will keep in our mind as his legacy: The example of his life, many of his comments, spoken in wisdom with a smiling face.
