

Jack Horwitz passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 94. He was a resident of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Jack Horwitz was born in Ficksburg, South Africa to the late Harry and Lena Horwitz. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jack is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Eva; his children Colin (Caroline Harris) Horwitz and Naomi (Geoff) Glazer; his grandchildren, Alex (Cory) Gross, Norman (Michelle) Glazer, Joshua Horwitz, Sarah Beller (Jared), and Spencer Horwitz; and his great-grandchildren, Ava and Dylan Gross, Cole and Emery Glazer, and Benji Harris. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Horwitz; his grandsons, Benjamin Harris and Adam Horwitz; and his brother, Aaron Horwitz.
Jack graduated from Cape Town Medical School at the tender age of 22, and was a General Practitioner in Zimbabwe, Africa, where he met the love of his life, Eva Marcks. Jack and Eva shared nearly 70 years of marriage, marked by lifelong partnership, devotion, and love.
After emigrating to the US with Eva and their three children in 1962, Jack completed a residency in pediatrics at Babies and Children’s Hospital in 1965. In 1967, he completed his fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at Columbia Presbyterian. His distinguished career at RB&C culminated in numerous awards and honors, including serving as Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology, receiving faculty distinction, and serving as Professor and Acting Chief of Pediatrics. He also served as an examiner for The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was a past Director at Hattie Larlham, a nonprofit center for individuals with developmental disabilities.One of Jack’s proudest accomplishments was co-authoring a 120-year history of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. He labored diligently and lovingly on this project for 10 years before its publication in 2007, titled For the Children.
Upon his retirement in 1998, the Samuel J. Horwitz, MD Pediatric Learning Center was dedicated in his honor, recognizing his incredible contributions to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Jack was a affiliated with Rainbow for more than 45 years, serving as a compassionate and dedicated Pediatric Neurologist for 35 years. Jack loved traveling the world with Eva, as well as gardening and woodworking. He designed and built beautiful furniture, an extensive train set for his grandchildren, and countless handcrafted gifts that he gave to many people in his life. Woodworking was a passion he taught and passed on to his sons, Michael and Colin, and to his grandson, Norman. Above all, Jack cherished time spent with his family and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services Will be held Thursday January 29, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery Mausoleum. Use Mayfield Road gate entrance and the building is on you right. Shiva will be observed on @ Eliza Jennings 16695 Chillicothe Rd. Chagrin Falls, Thursday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jack’s memory to The Samuel J. Horwitz, MD Pediatric Learning Center, Hospice of Western Reserve, or the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.
