Much laughter over the years. First when he and my brother were in medical school and later traveling with Shel and Frankie. Wonderful guy. So many stories. He is missed.

My father Gary was Gert Polster's brother. He was the baby of the family so when Gert became a mom to Shelly, my dad was only 10.He spoke very often of how proud he was to say he was an uncle at the young age of 10. He loved Shelly. In many respects they were very similar. Loving life to the fullest. Loving the little things that can bring such happiness. They both were lifelong learners who registered for courses when they retired and who were always full of questions for their teachers. It's so rare to find inquisitive and curious people. It was very touching to listen to stories told by his children and grandchildren, especially hearing that he wanted to know if he said he loved them, too often, or not often enough. How kind and compassionate! Before the pandemic, Shelly used to call me in Montreal on a regular basis. His calls were more sporadic in the last years but he still called, always inquiring about my daughters. I last saw Shelly in 2018 when I drove to Cleveland after my dad passed away. I'm really glad we spent time together then. He was really a lovely human being. Condolences to everyone who loved him. Nicole Halpert and Robert Cole

Shelly and I were roommates our first year at Kenyon College. We got along very well except for one night when we argued whose night it was to turn off the lights. That precipitated pillows being thrown from one bed to the other. We slept with the lights on that night. 
Shelly transferred to Western Reserve after 3 semesters and I did after 4. Both hoping to go to its medical school. We both were goal keepers on the Reserve soccer team. Neither of us had ever seen a soccer game let alone being able to kick with our left foot. We played baseball so the goal was a natural position. 
The highlight of our soccer career was when, as seniors,  we played Kenyon in Gambier. I played the first half and Shelly the the second. We each shut them out and won 1-0. 
 The highlight of our athletic career. 
Oh yes,  we both got into the medical school. 
       He was a gentle, kind person.

I have known Shelly for 70 years. He went to Cleveland Heights High
School, Kenyon, Western Reserve and Medical School with my Brother= Howard Hoffman.I remember when they dissected a cat in our basement..smelly.So memories as a kid. My husband David Klausner and I traveled with Frankie and Shelly and always had a laughing good time. We talked on the phone frequently but sadly not in a few months.My parents, my brother, David and I loved Shelly.Condolences to the family(of whom he was so proud)
