I just learned of Skip's death last night when I saw his son and a daughter at a local restaurant, which is why my guest book post is delayed.It was an honor to have known Skip, first though Penny (we taught Social Studies together at Shaker HS) then as a fellow attorney after I switched careers.  Optimistic, buoyant, enthusiastic, bright, devoted, and loving, are just a few of the words that come to mind thinking of Skip.  By happenstance, Penny was being cared for in the same facility and unit as an acquaintance of mine where I saw, first hand, his incredible love and devotion to Penny.  I recall thinking to myself at the time: that is true love -- being there, unwaveringly, for Penny till the very end. When I coached football at Shaker, I would see -- like clock work -- the two of them walking together around the oval, and that is how I will remember them now as I picture them walking together again hand-in-hand through eternity.  

My sincere condolences to such a wonderful man who inspired many, helped continually and never let a good story go untold.  His life is worthy of his own book...like so many he read.  Rest in peace, Skip.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

I know he was a fine man because he raised an extraordinary daughter, my friend and mentor Amy. Sending love and comfort to all who loved him. He will live on in you.

My fathers best friend, my second father. His soft spoken wisdom will be remembered and missed.

Indeed Johnny, if there's one word, it would have to be TERRIFIC. When I was young I found Uncle Skip's upbeat nature annoying. In my 20s I finally thought to ask him about it. His answer planted a seed that has grown these 40 years into a core part of my very being. For him it began the day he was freed from the POW camp, but the memory of Skip's demonstration of gratitude for each and every day of life is a gift that will keep on giving and giving and giving. What a treasure.

I am truly sorry about the loss of your loved one. May the peace of God provide you with comfort during this time. Deepest sympathies to your family and friends.

Skip was truly one of the greats. His devotion to Penny was truly inspirational, the compassion for his family was immense and constant, and he was always such a warm presence to be around. Just a sweet, sweet man.  My condolences to you all.
