Yvette was born on January 29,1950 to Alice and Nathan Peck, and spent her childhood living in Brooklyn and Queens, New York City, New York. She graduated from John Adams High School in Queens. She received her BS from the State University College at Brockport, her Master of Science from the University of Indiana and her PhD in Adapted Physical Education from The Ohio State University. Yvette worked with children and adults with mental and physical challenges for over 35 years.
After graduate school, she applied for an adapted physical education teaching position at Wright State University, Dayton, OH working with college aged students with disabilities, where she met Harold Newlin, her husband of 44 years. At Wright State University, she developed intramurals, competitive athletics, and personal training programs. Yvette also worked as a supervisor for the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities in the Recreation-Leisure and Nursing Departments, Bedford City Schools, Parma City Schools, and Cleveland Heights University Heights School District as a Supervisor of Special Education.
After she “retired” from Cleveland Heights/University Heights School District, Yvette went back to school once again in her 60s to become a practicing physical therapy assistant for North Olmsted City Schools. Yvette loved helping others reach their full potential. She enjoyed interacting with her students and seeing them grow in skills, mobility, and confidence.
In her free time, Yvette enjoyed camping, sewing, knitting, and spending time outdoors. But, most of all she loved her family. She was always willing to help her daughter, Rachel, her son-in-law Alex, and her grandchildren whenever they needed her support.
As she approached the end, Yvette was at peace. She was grateful for the joy and happiness she experienced throughout her life and for her loving family and friends.
