

From age six Julius was raised by his cousin, Marie Hollins. In 1941 they moved from Seale Alabama to Columbus Georgia. In 1943 they moved to Cleveland Ohio where Julius attended Outhwaite High School. He began his employment with Alcoa Corporation in 1948.
On November 23, 1950, Julius joined in holy matrimony to Doris Carolyn Hazley, and two and a half weeks later, on December 11th, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He served in the Army for two years. When he arrived home after his time in the Army he attended East Tech Auto Mechanic night school for three semesters, and he also attended Cleveland Radio and TV School for three years. In 1965 Julius and Doris brought home their first and only child – Christopher Darren Mays, who they adopted at birth. In 1968 Alcoa sent Julius to trade school for two years to study basic math through trigonometry, and drafting. In 1991 he retired from Alcoa.
In 1987 Julius joined Evangelical Community Christian Church; it was there he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He served on the usher board, the gospel choir, and was on the trustee board for five years.
Julius departed from this life on August 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Albert Mays, and Jesse Hinton, his sisters, Elizabeth Richardson, and Marie Baldwin, and his daughter-n-law, Adora Mays. He leaves to mourn and cherish his beautiful memory, his loving wife of 69 years, Doris Mays, his son, Christopher Mays Sr. (Kim), his six grandchildren, Christal Mays, Christopher Mays Jr., Julius Mays, Joshua Mays, Arthur Mays, and Adam Mays, his two great grandchildren, Serenity Harris, and Aries Britt, his brother, Johnny Mays, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
