

George Marzette Edmonds was born April 5, 1930 in Tuscaloosa Alabama. He was the youngest of eight children born to the union of Vida Mae(nee Jones) and John Edmonds Sr.
George was affectionately known as “Blair” by his family and friends. He attended Industrial School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He later finished school after having many unsuccessful surgeries on his broken leg. George relocated to Cleveland Ohio in the early 1950's to be close to his oldest sister Henrietta. George never married or had any children however, he was the favorite uncle to his Cleveland nieces, nephews and their children. George was a strong man who fought and won the battle against prostrate cancer. However as he aged both George and his sister, lived with Yvonne and her husband Donald Smith. They diligently provided care for him until they were no longer able to meet the demands of his illness.
George Edmonds' hobbies included playing the piano for his family, watching baseball, playing pool and traveling. He was also one of the founding members of the Tuscaloosa Reunion Club, a social club where all the related families from Tuscaloosa would gather once a year, each year at a different location to reunite. The club had many chapters in several places, such as Tuscaloosa Alabama, Los Angeles California, Atlanta Georgia, Chicago Illinois, Detroit Michigan, St. Louis Missouri, Las Vegas Nevada, and Cleveland Ohio. Each year there would be activities and the main event would include a formal ball that everyone looked forward to. George was very close with his relatives and would visit them regularly especially to Detroit Michigan. Also he loved going back to Tuscaloosa especially at Christmas time to visit with his siblings.
George Edmonds was employed at Premier Industrial Corporation founded by the Mandell Brothers whom George was acquainted with. He retired from there after working 30+years due to his diagnosis of osteomylitis in 1994. George was a stellar employee who never complained of anything and was the recipient of many certificates. He was respected by all his co-workers as well as upper management.
George Edmonds' last place of residence was at Cedarwood Plaza Nursing Home under the excellent care of Crossroads Hospice and Chaplin John. The Lord saw fit to call Uncle George home after a long battle of illness on January 20, 2018 following the visitation of his loving family of nieces and nephews, to be eternally in the presence of Our Heavenly Father.
George was closest to his Cleveland family who he leaves to cherish his memories. They include his nieces Yvonne Smith, Brenda Brown Smith, nephews Charles Brown Jr. and Fredrick Brown Sr. great nieces Yvette Machelle Smith McDowell, Shavonne McDowell, Donna Yolon Smith Conner (Marvin), DaVaughn Reid, Ronetta Smith, Iysha Johnson, Charlene Battle (Menzo II), Hailey Battle, Menzo Battle III, Fredrick Brown Jr., Jakira Brown, Prince Jakeir, Marzell Brown (Karen),Lauryn Brown, Quincy Brown, his very close friend Rena Hinton. George will also be missed by his nephews Douglas Edmonds and family of Titusville Florida, The Daniels family of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, nieces Renee Preston and family of Silver Spring Maryland, Audrey Edmonds Brown of Cincinnati Ohio, Mylita Edmonds of Tuscaloosa Alabama and many other great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
George has gone on to join his siblings and parents. His siblings welcoming him are John Edmonds, Baker Edmonds, Henrietta Edmonds Brown, Fredrick Douglas Edmonds, James Edmonds, Camuriel Edmonds Cooley, Rosemary Edmonds Daniels and his nephew Donald E. Smith . Uncle George was a meek loving person who loved to laugh and left us many funny memories. His loving kindness, honesty and generosity will never be forgotten.
