

Oliver Jackson also known to loved ones and friends as ‘Sonny’ or ‘O.J.’, was born November 8, 1936 in Cleveland, OH to Henry Boyd and Learlean Jackson-Hemphill; the second oldest of eight children.Oliver learned about Christ while attending Baptist and Catholic churches, the latter being St. Philomena’s Church in East Cleveland until its closing. He received his education while attending Thomas Edison and East Technical High School.Hard work started for him at an early age, his own paper route in elementary school. While in high school, he worked as gas station attendant. Oliver was dependable and took work seriously, his father Henry owned an asphalt paving company and took him under his instruction to learn the skills of asphalt paving and heavy equipment. Oliver worked with him for seven years until his father’s passing. Afterwards, Oliver went into an apprenticeship and joined Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18. Oliver worked throughout the Ohio region for 43 years as a heavy equipment operator on numerous highways, bridges and buildings.Oliver was vibrant, outgoing caring, considerate and a loving man. OJ touched many lives and inspired all those he encountered young and old alike. Love of family and friends was very important to him including attending the yearly neighborhood picnics and family get togethers as Oliver always made it a priority be there. The time to listen and sharing of his vast wisdom especially to his sons and grandsons were some of his most endearing traits. OJ enjoyed yard work, gardening, playing guitar and listening to jazz.Oliver departed this life on Friday, June 14 2019 after a brief illness. Oliver will be missed and cherished by his devoted wife of 41 years Trinetta Jackson; two sons Andre’ L. (Rebecca) and Jarett Oliver (Chinasa) three grandsons; Robert James, Cameron Alexander and Micah Nnaemka; two sisters; Florence Conners (Arthur deceased), Yolanda Turner (Anthony). Sister-in-law Delorise Jackson and brother-in-law Anthony Turner. Including a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nephews, nieces, and cousins and lifelong friends he loved dearly James Foy and Raney Powell.Deceased Sisters; Betty Crawford (Horace), Darlean Paul (James) and Joyce Stevens-Banks. Deceased Brothers Donald ‘Duck’ Jackson and Roger Stevens.
