The boom across the sky marked that special fourth of July were Ronald Paul Vaughn entered the world. He was born July 4th, 1938 to Minnie and William Vaughn Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio. Ronald attended Cleveland Public Schools and was a proud graduate of East Technical High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Ronald held many different jobs, but finally settled at TRW as a career choice.
Ronald accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized and grew in the knowledge of Christ at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. In 1978, he married his long time friend Quentina Crayton. That year he joined Second Ebenezer Baptist Church. To this union two children were born, Lugenia Vaughn and Tina Smith. He also took Beverly Tisha and Clarence as his own by adopting them and giving them his name, Vaughn.
As a member of Second Ebenezer, he fulfilled many roles in the church. He was a trustee for a time, member and president of the Gospel Choir, president of The Male Chorus, Boy Scout Leader, and he was known more for his role as “The Chicken Man.” Ronald was renown in the church for his crispy fried chicken that would smell up the building during morning service. In addition to his work in the kitchen, Ronald always shared his knowledge of Black History during Black History Month, as well as create handmade backdrops and props for the annual Christmas and Resurrection Day celebrations.
In 2005, Ronald moved his membership to The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. There he was a faithful member of the Male Chorus.
While working for TRW, his place of employment changed to Argo Tech where he worked as Machine Inspector where you could see him in his white jacket and goggles. Ronald was also known on his job and elsewhere for his drafting, woodwork, and construction. His gifted hands created great joy for many others to enjoy. Ronald retired from Argo Tech after 34 years of dedicated service as an inspector. Growing tired of retirement, Ronald took on another role as an usher at the Dollar Movie Theater. Many people remember going up Chardon Rd. and seeing a familiar face smiling at them and talking to them.
Ronald was also remembered for his love for computers. Many remember the famous career day in the Second Ebenezer basement where he brought in his famous “Commodore 64” wowing all the kids of Second Ebenezer. He was also a member of The Computer Club that met once a month at Euclid Square Mall.
Ronald was proud of all of his children. He loved his son Clarence, “The Reverend,” his oldest daughter Tish, “The Cook,” his middle daughter Gina “The Soldier,” and his youngest daughter Tina, “The Teacher.” He always stressed the importance of education and success. He impressed his dreams of success into all of his children and grandchildren.
Lastly, we cannot forget Ronald’s love for Star Trek, Star Wars and science fiction. He could be found going to ComiCon, and Star Trek conventions dressing in costume with his sister Harriet.
Ronald passed away suddenly at home on Friday, April 27th, 2018. He leaves to cherish his wife Quentina Vaughn; four children, Reverend Beverly Vaughn, Reverend Clarence (Angela) Vaughn, Lugenia Vaughn and Tina Smith; five grandchildren, Exidus Sadler, Quentin Smith, Haley Smith, Kellon Collier-Vaughn, and Haylee Ray; one sister, Harriett Coleman; one brother William Vaughn (deceased); his best friend Sanford Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish his memory.
