Our beloved Myron Boyd was born on June 10, 1953 in Hamilton, Ohio to James Harvey Boyd and Marie Washington Boyd. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Cleveland. Myron was the youngest son of six children.
He attended Cleveland Metropolitan Schools and graduated from Thomas Edison High School. After high school, he went to the University of Minnesota for their liberal arts program with an emphasis in art and horticulture design. He also completed two years of welding training at the Ohio School of Welding in Cleveland. Myron continued his education at Remington College, where he received an associate degree in criminal justice. He was a long-distance truck driver for multiple years. Later he was employed by TRW, Swagelock and the East Cleveland Police Department before health issues arose.
Maine, as he was affectionately called, enjoyed cooking for family and friends. They would line up for a taste of his ribs and polish boys. Conversely, he couldn't pass up a hot dog particularly if it had stadium mustard on it. Whether he was at the Cleveland Browns stadium or a street corner in New York City, Myron was a hot dog vendor's friend. He was an avid sports enthusiast. Though he was loyal to the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Indians) and the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fanatic and backer. As a Browns season ticket holder, he attended most home games, and hosted watch parties for the games at his home.
Myron prided himself on his sense of style, and he was known for his collection of hats, caps, and colognes. He was quite fashionable and liked to look good. He could have easily opened either a shoe store or a footwear museum based on the number of shoes that he had. Myron was proud of his children. He also enjoyed a special relationship with his nieces Gina Boyd and Lateenya Howard, and his nephews Dana Boyd and the late Toriano Boyd.
Myron accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Mt. Nemo Missionary Baptist Church, and also participated in worship services at Lee Memorial AME Church. Myron entered into rest on July 11, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic after battling long-term illnesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Boyd, sister Alberta Boyd, brother Larry Boyd, daughter Nicole Boyd, brother-in-law Sam McDowell Jr and sister-in-law Pauletta Boyd.
Myron continues to be loved by his wife Theresa McDowell Boyd; his siblings Gary Boyd, Sheila Boyd, and Paula Boyd; his children Kelly Boyd, Myron Boyd Jr., Tremaine Gaines, Tarra Harris (Carlos), Alex Boyd, and Allen Boyd; aunts Delores King and Elizabeth "Honey Gal" Jones, uncles Albert "Butch" Dancy and George Dancy; brother-in-law Chauncey McDowell (Denise); stepchildren Raheem McDowell and Akkida McDowell; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
We rejoice in having known, loved, and laughed with Myron. He will be dearly missed.
