

died unexpectedly on February 2, 2021, at his home in Cleveland, Ohio. He
was born in 1959 in Jamshedpur, India, the son of Mr. K.I. Poulose and Mrs.
Lily Poulose (Eipe). Dr. Verma graduated from Loyola School, India. His
passion for science led him to pursue a career in medicine. He enrolled and
graduated from the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education
and Research (JIPMER), 1984, India. Upon completing his medical degree,
Dr. Verma moved to the United States to further his training. He completed
residencies in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, Bronx, New York City. Soon after, a fellowship training in
Hematology and Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New
York City, followed.
Dr. Ravi Verma's career as a Hematologist and Medical Oncologist spanned
over 37 years. At the time of his death, he was an Oncologist in the Department
of Hematology and Medical Oncologist at the Taussig Cancer Institute of the
Cleveland Clinic. He was also a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic
Lemer College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
Before that, Dr. Ravi Verma practiced as a Medical Oncologist at Healthspan,
formerly Kaiser Permanente. While there, he served as a Chief of Medical
Oncology and was a member of the Board of Directors. His patients and
colleagues knew Dr. Ravi Verma as an outstanding oncologist who was kind,
thoughtful, and extraordinarily generous with his time. To his family and close
friends, Dr. Ravi Verma will be remembered for his intellect, kindness,
generosity, humility, and sense of humor. He was an avid reader, enjoyed
cricket, traveling, and trying out various countries' cuisines.
Dr. Ravi Verma is survived by his siblings – Dr. Lissy George (John) of India,
Mrs. Molly Philip (Jacob) of Maryland, Mrs. Mariam George (Abraham) of
New Jersey, Mr. Mohan Verma (Kira) of New Jersey, Mr. Rajesh Verma
(Prabha) of India, four nephews Ajit (Whitney), Vivek, Paul and Rohit (Rakhi),
four nieces Mary (Antony), Alexandra, Ashley and Anya, and two
grandnephews Benjamin and Nicholas.
Our thoughts and fond remembrance of Dr. Ravi Verma are there this day and
for the days and years to come.
